The piperine in black peppercorn can be considered a "bio-enhancer".

Updated: Feb 9

Black peppercorn & turmeric.

The piperine in black peppercorn can be considered a "bio-enhancer". This means that when it is mixed with certain nutrients, it can enhance their absorption & bioavailability to increase their effect in your body!

How?

1. Piperine has been shown to be absorbed very quickly across your intestinal barrier, and this is likely due to how it changes the dynamics of the barrier.

2. Piperine is also suggested to change the shape and activity of the enzymes that metabolise nutrients. Result: Both these abilities of piperine help your body absorb more of the nutrients that you consume with black peppercorn!

Why did we add it to this drink?

You've perhaps often seen black peppercorn paired with turmeric spice, and there's a reason for that! The piperine enhances the absorption of the active compound in turmeric called curcumin and, since curcumin has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties, this means our bodies will benefit even more from these actions. In relation to immunity, curcumin has been shown to reduce levels of detrimental cytokines (chemical messengers that act as signals between cells!) that cause damage in infections, so piperine helps this even further.
